NSW Liberal deputy resigns over corruption, announces new trade job in New York

Deputy leader of the NSW Liberals Stuart Ayres has resigned today, over allegations that he was involved in the appointment of colleague John Barilaro to a $500,000 a year job. Ayres has stated that he’s seen the error of his ways, and will be taking some time out in New York to think about what he’s done.

“As of today I will be resigning as Deputy leader,” Ayres told parliament. “Which is quite convenient as there just so happens to be a trade commissioner job that needs filling. And I know just the man.”

However, Ayres was forced to immediately resign from the role, after it was revealed that NSW is a state of Australia, and therefore has absolutely no need for a trade minister in New York. “NSW can’t just go making up cushy jobs for every corrupt politician,” said US Ambassador and former NSW politician Arthur Sinodinos. “God if we did that we’d run out of countries.”
